MedData Point is a market research program powered by MedData Group that collects and analyzes data to provide healthcare marketers with insights into the latest trends, technologies and perceptions in healthcare among physicians across a variety of specialties, ages, and practice sizes.
In this latest survey, MedData Group asked physicians about their opinions and perceptions on reputation management. Based on 148 physician responses, MedData Group found that almost half of physicians surveyed do not actively manage their online reputation; however, according to a 2014 survey by BrightLocal, 47% of the patients say that the reputation of a doctor matters to them when choosing a new healthcare provider. Twice as many physicians in their 30s manage their online reputation compared with physicians in their 50s and 60s. The top area of impact identified by physicians regarding their reputation was that insights from social media will be used as criteria for performance reviews and determining compensation.
The survey results show that while most physicians recognize that reputation management is important, a large portion of them are not managing it. The younger generation of doctors who likely grew up with social media and other online communities are more active in these spaces and more aware of their online images.
